I've simply had a message to say and old friend of mine, and an icon of the world of the state speed record has passed on. Art Arfons was known as the "Genius of the junkyard", and he was. He will be buried in his race suit, holding his spanners with a J47 engine manual by his side. I cannot call back of anything more fitting.

I got to put my hands on this car at a Los Angeles show. Cold and a little lumpy, IIRC. I always grin with pleasure, thinking of the Arfons' escapades.

Very sad. What a wonderful grapheme.
The archetypal 'man in the shed' who could and did make earth headlines on a shoestring budget through the brilliance of his imagination and the genius in his own easily.

With the decease of Tom Dark-green a few years back that leaves the FASTEST MAN ON EARTH club at just three surviving members with no sign of whatever new-comers on the horizon.

I think at that place were various versions of the Light-green Monster, and, of course, many previous elevate cars such as the "Anteater", but the principal years of the Arfons/Breedlove battles at Bonneville were 1964-1966.
